10 tips on Enhancing your Career

Defend your position
Everything happens by design
1. Keep focus on YOUR responsibilities, not on others

Is it possible to look north and south at the same time?
If you’re looking at your competitor and trying to copy him, you can run into dangerous territory because you’re not focusing on your business.

Stop focusing on everyone around you. You need to focus on you.  Even if you’re working on a team project and your coworker is slacking off, you can only be responsible for what you’re supposed to bring to the table. You have enough on your own plate to worry about without micromanaging others. Bonuses and pay raises come from your efforts and yours alone.

Rewards and advancements are not typically based on what someone else does unless your company is structured that way. Some people get paid on the efforts of others. In that case all you can do is coach them. If they're not doing what you ask of them, then you need to go back to the drawing board and figure out what motivates them! People respond differently based on what motivates them.

2. Focus on what you can do vs. what you can't do.
Take responsibility for where you are and learn the tools necessary to move yourself forward in a positive way.  Do what you know you can do vs. what you can't do! You can't change anyone; you can only change yourself. As you change, others will change in response to you!

Whatever you focus on, you will become better at mastering. If you focus on the things you can't do, you'll only bring yourself down and feel depressed. Look at these as areas where you can grow and improve. The more skills you bring to the marketplace, the more $$ you make.

Focus on what others can do. If you surround yourself with a group of individuals who can bring something to the table in different fields, you now have a strong team bringing different areas to the table to develop whatever your focus is. No one person can be a master at everything.

You can change how you treat you boss, and in return, it will have your boss treating you differently. Often times, people look at their boss as if their boss is out to get them. If you start thinking positively about your boss, you will be surprised at the results.

What you give out will come back to you. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Can you communicate differently with others? Pull the best out of people? Yes, you can! The more you focus on someone's positive attributes, the more you can lift them up. Don't you feel special and important when someone gives you a compliment? The more you make people feel important and special, the more they’re going to want to do a good job! Focus on the positive!!!!

3. Focus on what you have vs. what you don't have.
What do you have and what can you do to get where you need to be? Those who get it are those who go get it! Don’t worry about the things you don't have. So many times people will say to me that they don't have the resources, but yet when they dig deep, the resources are right in front of them.

You may be someone who is trying to start your own business, and you may feel you don't have enough contacts. Oh really? How do you think I grew my connections to over 4,000?  Not by accident, but by connecting with whom I already knew. You all know at least 1000 people right where you currently are. Go check facebook, twitter or linked in. You can go out and meet people at networking events.
Think of people you used to work with, alumni, etc. What skills do you currently have that can help you get to where you want to go? Maybe you’re good at marketing or accounting or organization. Use those skills to help you get to the next level. There are so many free tools out there that you can use. The problem is that you don't know where to research to get top quality for free. You need to use the skills sets you have to educate yourself. Everything else will fall into place.

4. Everything is based on skill
Your in complete control of your financial crisis, not the banks not the mortgage company. You are in charge of your finances. If you’re in debt and live off credit cards, you created that mess; no one else did. You need to learn the basic skills to get you out of the rut.
Can you improve your financial situation? Yes, because it's a skill you can develop. No one becomes great without practice.
Success doesn't come for free either, my friends. Success comes with a price. The question is, “Are you willing to pay for it?” I've invested thousands into myself and my knowledge to get me to where I am today, and I keep on investing because I have to remain teachable; I have to keep learning. It's the knowledge of new things and the perseverance that helps me achieve such awesome goals.

If you’re not working on your skill set and developing yourself, you need to begin.
Developing better people skills can only help to achieve success. No matter how good your people skills may be, there is always room for improvement. Even Donald Trump still works on the basic skills daily. Weigh your ego with your bank account and find out what weighs more. If you’re not where you want to be in life, you have to sharpen the axe on your skill sets.

5. Focus on what you want vs. what you don't want
You get motivated by what you don't want vs. what you want. You don't want to become that sleazy salesmen or woman, so you work on developing yourself to what you do want to become. You don't want to be a haunt to people. You need to work on developing business relationships that are professional where people will want to talk to you vs. run away.
Right now I want you to make a list of 10 things that you don't ever want to become. Next to the list, write down 10 ways on how not to become those things. Next write a list of some people in your life you do not want to be like, Debbie downers. Those are the people you need not focus on and try to find a better circle of people who will lift you up and speak encouragement into you!

6. Reminders
Think of things you want to go after. How badly do you want success? I know I crave for better each and every day. I'm continually surrounding myself with positive and inspirational people. I surround myself with people I want to become like. I read books that inspire me. What are you preparing for? Maybe it's a 5k race that you’re going to run so you start small and do something each day to reach you ultimate goal.

7. Focus on building people up
How can you help others succeed? What gives you the ability to do what you do? You need to speak positive words into others. Out of the heart the mouth speaks, and it's important that you speak life into people.  People respond when you’re lifting them up. Some of the most successful people today have missed the mark so many times, but it's not where you are that matters, it’s where you’re going that counts! Focus on where you’re going verses how many times you may have missed.

8. Work on your greatest strength and avoid your weaknesses.
I had someone once tell me that the reason he couldn't be on the call is that he felt insecure about what others might think. He lives with his parents, and he did not want his parents to question him.  If  you’re worried about what everyone else thinks, you will not become successful.
You need to stay strong, and not allow others opinions affect you. I want you to look in the mirror, and I want you to ask yourself this question, “What is my best quality? What do people recognize most about me?” That is what you need to focus on.

Push everything else aside. Don't let your insecurities overpower your greatest strengths. People recognize you for what you CAN do, not what you can't do.
If you’re not good at computers or public speaking, then avoid anything that has to do with those things. Focus on the areas in which you have strengths, and find how you can apply those strengths to a career!

9. Whatever you focus on is a magnet
A. What you talk about others will follow.
B. what you focus on everyone else follow

Like attracts like. When you choose to be a leader vs. a follower, people will respect you more. Why? Because people respect people who have an opinion and who can express themselves well. You want to be a leader so others can follow you, but at the same time allowing them to create their own identity. A leader gives people tools and techniques to use but never says act, talk and walk like me

10. Focus on what you are selling vs. what you are going to be selling

You have to be in the moment and focus on what's in front of you.
Tomorrow isn't here yet and yesterday has passed. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
What are your tasks for today? You have to focus on your clientele whether you work for yourself or work for a company. Your customer comes first. If you lose focus of that, everything else becomes a mess. Know what you’re focusing on at all times. The minute you lose focus, your goal becomes more challenging. Ask yourself this question, what am I focusing on? Where your focus is, is what you become!
